Shall we report Wallpapers with smaller Resolutions now ?

    Example:

    Same Wallpaper

    Resolution 1: 2560 x 1600 Resolution 2: 1920 x 1080

    Report the smaller Version ?

    Yes or no ?

Because: a upload with a smaller resolution 1680 X 1050 was deleted then a upload with a resolution 1680X 1050 was not deleted

We'll come up with a clear rule soon.

    Wonderful. Really good news. :-)

    I'd really love a ruling on 16:9 vs 16:10 wallpapers, particularly 1920x1080 vs 1920x1200.

TBH I prefer 1920x1080 wallpapers to stay as standard resolutions since they are very common resolutions amongst monitors. Aren't there allowed to be a limited number of the same wallpaper in different resolutions?

defurious Could you clarify what you mean by that, please? The plan isn't really to prefer one resolution over the other but rather to keep only the largest available that includes all others.

Gandalf Sorry, I'm talking about the same image being uploaded in both of those resolutions. I see it happen a lot. Here's two recent ones:

NSFWYou need to be logged in to view this wallpaper.

IMO, we should keep the 1200 versions because they show more of the image unlike the 1080 versions which are zoomed in and cropped which is probably not what the artist intended. Without a source, we will never know. I've also seen versions that aren't zoomed in and just the top and bottom are cropped, usually to remove a watermark. I used to report these in the past but was informed that they weren't close enough. Needed to have less than 5% difference. That was over a year ago so I don't know if that still stands.

But keeping the 16:10 version creates a new problem. People who search for 1920x1080(16:9) wallpapers aren't going to see it. 16:10 is a very rare screen ratio. Do you guys have data on how many people use the resolution/ratio filter?

This is why we need better search functions. The old wallbase had the At Least and Exactly filters for ratios and resolutions. If they set At Least 1920x1080 or 16:9 as a browsing filter then they would also see x1200 and every other odd resolution . This way we could set a rule to keep only the x1200 version(given that it meets our high quality criterion) and then if users saw a x1080 wallpaper they could rest assured knowing a x1080 version doesn't exist. We could then apply the same rule across the board to higher resolution wallpapers that are the same image as long as they aren't a low quality upscale.
