Tag Category Changes

Gandalf and I were working on a new set of tag categories. The current plan is below and will be updated as needed. The main change is getting rid of the Other subcategories, because whatever might go in there can just go in the root category instead. This is likely to be worked in for beta when the tags will be wiped so that it's a cleaner transition, so I'm putting it up now so we can all gripe.

Keep in mind that we're trying to keep this list suitable for our purposes but tight enough that it doesn't confuse users too much. Because of this, if you have a suggestion for a change or addition, please say why!

Hi there,

today I was tagging a few wallpapers and came across a certain amount of images of "musicians", like singer, songwriter or bands. I wasn't able to find a category where they might fit. Are all musicians celebs? Don't think so.

As I can see in your list above, there it says under "People & Characters" - "Artists & Musicians"

On the actual site, when you add tags, it only says Artists. There is no category for musicians, but I think those are a big part of what we see on wallpapers. Is there any reason it wasn't added? Do you want us to add them somewhere special?

I think musicians deserve their own or combined category!

You're right that musicians aren't necessarily celebs. The Artists category we have right now is suitable for artists in the broadest sense, so it's where I put individual musicians. That's not totally clear, which is one reason why we were to change it to the above so that it's more obvious.

I did think about a separate Musicians category (Athletes as well, to a lesser extent), but I was going to wait until shortly before beta and take a look in Artists and other categories to see what the proportions of tags are like to see if it would be worthwhile.

thank you for your answer cfunk. I wasn't aware of the fact, that the above changes haven't been applied already. Must have missed that, as I just started here. I didn't know the "before" and that how it looks now is the more or less old variant and the above will be the new one.

I guess your descission to wait shortly before the start of the beta to evaluate which categories might be needed is a good way.
