I can hardly use the filtering system, as 9 out of 10 or so searches lead to a "Too many requests" error page. I'm just doing manual searches using the website. What can I do to prevent this from happening?

Nothing can be done. Trust me it's annoying as I have the same issue when I'm doing moderation work, but it's in place to prevent people from flooding the site and making it unusable for others.
