Appeal

Hello. I have been banned from uploading for the reason of "low quality" uploads. I've been stretching my mind trying to understand. I don't do it intentionally. I've had some wallpapers deleted that are from the same photo shoot, same photographer, same camera as others that have not been deleted. For example: How can this be low q https://wallhaven.cc/w/ym9vex , when this one isn't https://wallhaven.cc/w/xl9dwv . I honestly don't see these compression artefacts in most of them (sometimes I really see them and then I don't upload).

There is also the case of low q background, which again I don't understand; many of my wallpapers have been deleted because they had a blurred background; but that is an intended effect! How can a wallpaper be LQ if the main subject is very detailed? For example here https://wallhaven.cc/w/83j22y it's so high quality that you can see details the face, and the rest is blurred intentionally for the face to stand out. Then how can this stand, when it is from the same shoot: https://wallhaven.cc/w/r2dgq1 ?

I've read the other thread about low quality appeal. I've really been trying to train my eyes to spot low quality. Is there another objective method to detect this? If not, then I leave it to you, admins, because you have better eyes. But please don't ban me and just delete the wallpapers that you think they are low quality.

    Thanks.

I've had a quick chat with kejsirajbek about the ban and the wallpaper in question. It seems that there is some ongoing issues about low quality wallpapers being deleted which was the reason for the short ban on uploading.

In the the case of the deleted wallpaper you asked about there is a good bit of artifacting going on most likely as a result of the JPG compression method. You can see this clearly at most of the lines on her body and particularly her hair like here There are also some issues with the large darker areas of the image like her attire and background which is really easy to spot the bottom left part. You can see blocks appearing there due to the JPG compression. In this case I will rely on kejsirajbek judgement because I don't see any issues with the deletion of the wallpaper

If you have anything to add or something you want to ask I will try my best to answer them for you. I hope this clears some things up for you.

I hope you have a good day

    Edit: a word

I see these little blocks in the example given, but it's hard to spot them in wallpapers. Sometimes I think I see "blocks" in many wallpapers, for example this one https://wallhaven.cc/w/ox7dym , but I don't think it's low quality, I think it's an intended effect. So it's hard to separate compression from artistic effects. You are more trained at this than me. Let's make a deal; when the ban lifts, I will limit myself to 10 uploads per day. And if some of them are low quality it shouldn't be too hard to delete them, so you don't have to ban me again, ok?

It would be nice if we could just strike a deal and be done with it but this is however not something that I can do. The rules apply to everyone without exception (including staff). If you want to prevent any future actions you should take a good look at the images that you want to upload and look for any rule breaking issues.

In case you want to read up on the rules you can find them here.

Of course, but that is the problem: it seems that I just can't see these low quality issues. I guess it would be safer not to upload at all then, if I am hurting this site so bad...
